Ronnie Richardson Sail Trophy 2009 - Round 1 to 3

Report by Nick Clayton, thank you Nick

Rounds 1, 2, and 3 were contested in variable winds – what more can I say... This year has been much of the same as last year – where is the wind?

We have approximately 20 yachts competing in this year’s races. Most skippers have opted to race the larger yachts in Class B. This has seen a trend where those skippers racing the ‘Seawind’ have dominated the races. It has been decided (subject to CMBC committee approval), to split the Class A yachts into two classes. This allows the ‘slower’ yachts in Class A to compete in their own class.

So the classes going forward are as follows:

Class A – Remains the same (This is a really competitive but small class).

Class B – ‘Seawind’ yachts only.

Class C – The ‘other’ yachts originally in Class B (Voyager, Emirates, etc.)

It should be noted that this allows skippers in Class A an ‘upgrade’ path for the future. Either to Class B (more expensive yachts) or Class C (less expensive).

Here are the points as of Round 3.

It should be noted that Class C points are over 2 Rounds as the positions in the first round are unknown due to an administrative problem...

With this in mind the Class C championship will be held over 9 Rounds.

The Yacht Racing rules will be updated once approval has been finalised and will be in the next Bow Waves and on the website.
