Under a cloudy sky with a hint of rain but virtually no wind Round Three took place on Sunday the 27th of April. We had the best attendance of skippers to date, 20 in all - 8 in Class A, 10 in Class B and 2 in Class C. After setting out the course buoys racing, or shall one say drifting got under way. Because of the virtual non existance of wind it was decided that the 30 minute race duration rule would be used. This does not make any difference to the skippers but it is an absolute nightmare for the race adjudicators. Line honours in Class A in Race 1 were taken by Nicholas Clayton with Edie Marjoram second and Dave Elsworth third. Class B was won by Chris Harding with Anthony Sisley in second place and Harry Hunt in third place. Derek Hutchinson, a new Club member, took Class C with Derek Filmer in second place
And so to Race 2 again run under the 30 minute rule - after some 20 minutes of racing the first yacht , skippered by Dave Tucker, crossed the start/finish line to complete the first lap of the 5 lap race with the balance of the yachts in most cases some two legs behind. A "quick meeting of the committee was held" and it was decided to abandon the race and the balance of the racing for the day. Ironically within 45 minutes of the decision to abandon the racing there was a beautiful breeze blowing across the lake - again "sods law" or is it "Murphy's law" comes to mind.
