Ronnie Richardson Sail Trophy 2007

The Ronnie Richardson Sail Trophy is contested over ten rounds of three races per round between the months of February and November – both months inclusive. In other words 30 races make up the programme for the Trophy. The races are generally held on the last Sunday of the month starting in the early afternoon. The decision to start later in the day was made so as to not interfere with members enjoyment during the morning – it was observed that most members have gone home on a Sunday by about 12.30 pm.

With some ten rounds of races to contest the leading protagonists start to appear by about rounds 4 or 5 and generally by rounds 7or 8 the leaders really start to come to the fore. 2007 was no different and by the end of round 7 four skippers were emerging from the pack with one of them in a very strong position. The four leading skippers were Anthony Sisley, Les May, Dave Tucker and Dave Chalk. After 7 rounds Anthony Sisley was in a commanding lead but unfortunately for him, but fortunately for the others, he had to go away on business in Europe. This allowed the two Dave's and Les to close right up on him.

Round 9 should have been very interesting but misfortune overtook Dave Chalk and Les and Anthony went into the final round with what seemed to be a comfortable lead. After nine rounds Dave Tucker had dropped out of contention.

Round 10, right at the end of November, should have been a formality for Anthony but he had misfortune after misfortune and lady luck was on Dave Chalk and Les May’s side and it all came down to the 30th and last race of the competition. Anthony again ran into trouble and Dave nipped in and took the trophy by two points.

The top ten positions in the competition are as follows:

1st  Dave Chalk 126 points
2nd  Anthony Sisley 128 points
3rd   Les May 136 points
4th  Dave Tucker  170 points
 5th   Harry Hunt 212 points
6th  Greg Chalk  228 points
7th  Nick Clayton 241 points
8th Jonathan Sisley  286 points
 9th   Edie Marjoram  289 points
10th  Rita Holmes 291 points

The following also took part in the racing:

Bill Holmes, Richard Gardner, Colin Bird, Peter Daniels, Jack and Simon Diaper, Paul Cooper, Matt Mock, Vic Mortley, Alex Bevan, John Thorneycroft, Peter White, Steve Whenham, Ted Adams, Tom Heward, Kevin Keeler.
