The following e-Mail
was received by Mike Harris along with some fantastic old
photographs at the end of August this year, my apologies for taking
so long to get it up on the website, anyway enough of me going on:
My name is Mike Harris,
I just
thought you may be interested to learn that I was in fact I suppose,
one of the founder members of the MBC back in the (can't remember
exactly) but late 50's early 60's I was active in laying the
existing concrete Quay for the MBC.
My number was
in fact CM153 (we started numbering at 150) - Members at that time
were people such as John Cundell, Ron Finnis (model shop in Stone
Street), Rod Westacott, Val Warner, Jack May etc., etc.
My radio was
a typical of that time, hybrid, miniature valve and transistor, with
"vibrating reedbank" contact system. Very unreliable and could not
run more than one boat at a time due to the width of band (very
uncontrollable at that time).
Well I have
rambled on a bit - if you want me to come and talk to people some
time, I would be happy to do so - may be interesting to the younger
members.
You may be
interested in the pictures, the old gals look a bit drab now but
nothing that can't be cleaned up I suppose.
Sincere
regards
Mike Harris |
