Round
one of the IC Sports Trophy took place on 1st March 2008. As
usual at the Mote, unless raining, the venue provides an ideal location with
plenty of shelter augmenting the fine day. Unfortunately for this season, it
looks as if John Larke, our IC co-ordinator and committee member, wont be
able to compete at the weekend meetings as work commitments have taken
priority.
The main events consist of two Z Class races both lasting ten minuets. In
all, seven turned up to race at this years first event, all with
“restricted” craft, except for Steve Whenham who was running a
“modified” complete with gearbox etc. The racing was split into two
heats to make sure we had enough spotters and a scorer.
Mike Potter had recently completed construction of his Z Class craft,
intended for use for this years trophy, but spent most of the meeting fine
tuning and staying static on the water. Not the start he wanted, as he spent
much of the day in the club’s rowing boat! No race wins, and sore arms
too. Steve gave the benefit of his knowledge with all things IC, but the
work needed on Mikes Z Class would have to take place away from the
lakeside.
Round two was due to take place on 5th April, but two members had
other commitments and this did not leave enough people to compete, as well
as provide the necessary spotters for those on the water. An alternative
date is to be arranged. Also, thanks go to Peter Edwards who was there on 5th
with his fast electric, as he managed on a number of occasions to nudge IC
craft safely to shore after they had decided to emulate the ducks, and sit
there! Peter’s boat is the red one that managed to keep going.
The IC section of the club are sometimes found mid week, usually on a
Thursday afternoon, fine tuning and running their latest creations. However,
unless weather dictates otherwise, they will always be found on a Saturday
morning down at the Mote. If you feel an IC boat is the thing for you,
please feel free to come and talk with us at any of these times. You may
even become our next member, who knows!
