Cygnet's 50th Birthday Celebration - Type 23 Frigate HMS Kent - Follow On Gallery

This is the first page of hopefully many more to come showing HMS Kent on her numerous engagements both at Moat Park and at other clubs.

Back in February  Peter Clayton was invited to give a talk on Model Boats - not that he knows much about them!!!! - to the members of the West Maidstone branch of KARF (Kent Active Retirement Fellowship). Members of KARF are predominantly retired Kent County Council (KCC) employees who are paid a pension by the KCC. Peter spoke to the members for approximately for 40 minutes.

Peter was accompanied for this talk by David Shirley who brought along HMS Kent, Trevor Bright displayed a coaster and a tug, Derek Filmer from the Sail section brought along his Seawind yacht, Mike Pain of the Scale I.C. section displayed a couple of OMRA  "Z" class boats and a fast electric. Ian Gerrard brought along his very technically advanced computer controlled steam boat. To complete the display Peter had brought along a tug, a frigate and a police launch.

Peter concluded his talk with dialogue on HMS Kent whilst she was being assembled in front of the audience. She was assembled to display standard by David, Trevor Ian and Derek.

During the tea break after the talk considerable amount of interest was shown in the models, especially HMS Kent, and the Club members present were bombarded by many questions - especially Ian and Derek.

Some comments regarding the pose in the picture below - is it Clayton showing attitude and boredom or is it a display of immense pride in the Club's achievements?

It is up to you to decide - but Peter knows and I think I know what it is.

On the 18th Of April HMS Kent was down at Mote Park and I popped long and took the following snaps, it had been a few months since I had seen HMS Kent and the there has been a lot of work put in to add a lot of small detail which hopefully some of the following pictures will show.
At around 11h30 HMS Kent started by being unpacked and assembled by the waters edge at Mote Park, Maidstone
Above Trevor is connecting up the motor that now drives the radar, following on HMS Kent being lifted into the water and then a final shot as she is assembled.
Above and below shows pictures of HMS Kent out on the water.
A kind member of the public volunteered his video camera to be sat on the bow of HMS Kent, go to our video page, it's the second video down, it's really cool.
