Below shows details of the forward gun
of HMS Kent, it is a 4.5" MK8 MOD 0, by Paul Dengate. This
started out as a personal challenge to see if I could do it, well
that is how it started, now I have signed up to complete the
forward gun. (4th and 5th October 2008) |

Cutting the mid section of the barrel from aluminium |
|

Shaping the mid section of the barrel |
|

Milling down the St\St rear of the barrel |
|
The real challenge will be mechanising
it and getting it to do something, watch this space to see how I
progress over the coming months. |

Boring out the rear section of the barrel |
|

Grinding down the rear of the barrel section |

Diagram used to cut the barrel |

Final item, showing the down pipe that will be used to connect up
the water. |
|
The first picture details the
mechanism for turning the gun, having never made one before it's a
bit experimental. Peter asked if the hull was done yet, well
not quite however work has begun as shown in the picture below
right, come on Peter some pictures of the superstructure would be
nice, or should that be Dave?.(11th October 2008) |

Picture to the left
shows the start on the hull, transferring the offsets to the
plywood. |

Bottom left starting to fit the
components of the gun together, to the right Brian Dengate has
made good progress this week nearly finishing a very labour
intensive front bow of HMS Kent.(19th October 2008) |

leading edge. |

The forward section of the hull
starting to come together, the bulk heads for the back half are
also cut, just waiting to be mounted. The LH and RH
propellers from the Prop-Shop have arrived this week and Ray
Milliken will be hopefully be collecting them in the coming week.
The mechanics of the forward gun are nearly complete and it is
hoped that final fitting can take place shortly. The centre
section of the forward gun casing has been started in Balsa.(26th October 2008) |
