Cygnet's 50th Birthday Celebration - Type 23 Frigate Build (HMS Kent) - Build Gallery- 6

This is the sixth page that provides pictures of the Cygnets Model Boat Club build progress of HMS Kent.

Up to this point all the pictures in this section have been of our build of HMS Kent on the 28th February of this year a small group, including two ladies from Demelza House, where invited to view the real HMS Kent in Portsmouth at the end of her refit.  You will see from the photographs there is still some of the work going on.  Nevertheless we had a fantastic time, in the name of research, and our host made us feel most welcome and was a fountain of knowledge.

Working through the pictures from top left: The first picture is looking back from the bow.  The second picture was Matt issuing instructions, what you don't see in this picture is Alastair looking more than perplexed while trying to see what Matt was doing. Third picture was Peter taking charge.  Fourth picture of one of the ribs.

Above a side shot of HMS Kent, you can see some of the scaffolding coming down, a niece forward shot and finally the group shot on the hanger deck at the rear of the ship. (28th February 2009)

The photographs above and directly below were taken at the last Construction Progress Meeting on the 16th of March.  The first two are of the forward bridge section that John Adams has been working on, the next two show the mid section and hanger section, don't worry Peter Clayton has assured me the purple will go on the hanger door.

The first picture above shows some of the on the mid section of the rib and machine gun, the remaining three pictures show the superstructure on the hull. (16th March 2009)

Peter Clayton and Dave Shirley got together this weekend to paint the deck, a couple more coats to go.  The last picture show the forward gun turret with the top hand rails made, although not in the picture the shell eject aperture has also been completed. (22nd March 2009)
Model Boats April'09 edition has a full page feature on our project to build of HMS Kent
Not so many pictures this time, hopefully we will be able to get some of the hull shortly.  Work has commenced on the wiring of the electrics within the hull along with the bilge pumps. (5th April 2009)
To the right some of the fittings for the forward gun, the ladders and hand rail, the shell eject funnel and parts for the encasement To the right some of the graphics for use on HMS Kent, I've used special adhesive paper through my ink jet printer, then the images are cut out and coat of polyurethane added.
