Cygnet's 50th Birthday Celebration - Type 23 Frigate Build (HMS Kent) - Build Gallery- 4

This is the fourth page that provides pictures of the Cygnets Model Boat Club build progress of HMS Kent.

The transom half of the hull has had to come in for painting as today the outside temperatures dropped to -2°C it really looks smart in polar grey, this is the first coat, but it covered extremely well and I expect to add a further two coats.  It's just as well it's low odour paint otherwise I would be in trouble, it's hoped to have this part finished this coming week. (10th January 2009)

After some re-alignment and resetting of the larger A frame, Ray Milliken and Alan Noble conducted some load tests with the motors.  Prior to the re-alignment the motors were drawing 6 Amps approx. but afterwards a more respectful 2 Amps approx. The two halves were returned to Brian Dengate and with the aid of a laser lever the lines for the red oxide colour and black water line where marked on the two halves.  Although both halve were joined it was still possible for two people to lift and manoeuvre when joined together. Below are some photographs of the masking up and the first coat of red oxide colour being applied, this is after another fill and rub down of the deeper marks.
The pictures above show the initial masking up, a nice shocking pink, this is the first time I have used it so I hope the paint doesn't bleed underneath.  Painting with brush around the rudder and propeller assemblies because the roller is a little on the large size, this is most time consuming part of the painting, but once that has been done out comes the roller, it's taking about an hour and a half to paint (25th January 2009)
I estimate 4 to 5 coats are going to be needed before the black water line can be added.
The following pictures have been provided by Richard Gardner of the completed Sea Wolf High Speed vertically launched missile system . The 32 silo's for the Sea Wolf Missiles are a prominent feature and show up well in the pictures below.  (28th January 2009)

The hull below is nearing completion, masked up and the black water line going on nicely, I'm just hoping the cold snap that we are about to have won't slow down the progress.  There is also some touching up of the grey to do and highlighting of the lines.

John Adams has provided the following pictures of the Bridge section, from left to right:  Upper bridge window section, different view of the same, side view of lower bridge section, top view  of the lower bridge section after having made considerable modifications.

Again left to right: Top bridge in temporary position, side view of bridge showing side platforms and top bridge in temporary position.  (31st January 2009)
