The
Southern Model Air Show (SMAS) is now over and done for this year
and we all look forward to next years event which will hopefully
again be hosted at the
excellent
Hop
Farm
Country
Park
in Beltring, near Paddock Wood, Kent. .
This is now a well established show, with eight shows under
its belt at
the current location.
From humble beginnings this show has grown from one field at the Hop
Farm to three and beyond.
In the first year the boat display consisted of four Cygnets Model
Boat Club members with one table. Last year it had a BIG pool for
general running and a smaller pool for the have-a-go boats with 15
model boat clubs displaying their models for the public to see.
With that add in two days of model aircraft flying, two full size
aerobatic displays and one by a helicopter. Plus radio control cars,
tanks, full size sports cars, many trade stands and a bring and buy
sale there is plenty for all to see and do.
Last year there were some 10,000 paying visitors and from
what was seen in 2008 I suspect that has grown.
For the 2007report on the Cygnets Model Boat Club attendance at
the SMAS event go to the following link: www.southernmodelairshow.com/show-reports/cygnets-model-boat-club.shtml.
This show now is regarded by many as the show to go to so don't miss
it.
